The company was founded in 1819 by Michael Thonet, who experimented with bentwood furniture. It didn't take long for Thonet and his sons to make this furniture on an industrial scale. They started to produce their own designs and in a very short time they became the main furniture manufacturer with distribution all over the world.
The biggest expansion in the 1930s was the expansion of production with tubular steel products from renowned renowned Bauhaus designers such as Mart Stam, Marcel Breuer and Mies van der Rohe.
Today, Thonet is a manufacturer of many types of chairs made of both tubular steel and bent wood. Thonet represents a well-established tradition of innovation and design quality in a long-term way.
