Lorenz Anton (1891-1964)

originally a teacher from Budapest, left for Germany in 1919. Through contact with K. Lengyel, Lorenz joined the marketing standart Mobel. When selling this company to Thonet, he kept four prototypes of cantilever chairs as his own design. In 1929, he received a license from Marta Stama for his cantilever chair and began his production in his newly established company DESTA (Deutsche Stahlmobel). During 1929, Thonet began manufacturing Breuer's cantilever chair, and Loren initiated litigation against this. In June 1932, the German Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Lorenz-Stam party. All cubic cantilever chairs were considered an attribute of Stam's design. Lorenz sold the DESTA range to Thonet and gave Thonet a sublicense for Stam's chairs. From 1933 to 1935 he was employed as a patent agent for Thonet. He later returned as an independent patent agent. However, its contribution to the construction of tubular steel furniture is not yet entirely clear. He was a trader with technical interests who implemented some improvements and variations of existing designs. Lorenz emigrated to the USA in 1939 .
