Gilbert Rohde (1894–1944)
Born in New York, he worked in the United States as a leading interior architect at Herman Miler Inc. Rohde was a supporter of modern furniture and interiors. He was a promoter of modern materials in furniture, chrome steel, bakelite and plexiglass. One of his most innovative designs was a shaped plexiglass chair made in 1939. Some of his designs were also realized by European companies.
